Overman's debut remains an impressive introduction to the songwriter and performer. "If I Were You" and "Twelve Main Highways" stand out as favorites. A fairly large group was assembled for this recording and bay area saxophonist Doug Rowan gets plenty of space. The Owens brothers play significant roles as guitarist / vocalist / coproducer (Scott) and bassist / vocalist (Craig). The late Gene Barnholt contributed outstanding keyboard and arrangement talent with drummer Johnny Craviotto filling out the core group. Percussionist Jim Greiner is present consistently and Jeffrey Wash plays beautiful fretless bass on the ballads. Fairly mainstream and radio-friendly production with stylistic diversity in songwriting make this record a favorite among the general public.
