Burn a candle in the window for me darlin'

I won't sneak out the back door come mornin'

We can go out in public Sunday afternoon

Tell your friends that the time has come (that's right)

You need loving and you're gonna get you some

Take the phone off the hook

Take another look

Take a walk out under the moon

Singing the blues on the back porch

And it takes all I've got just to carry the torch

Until it's started to burn the hand that I hold it in

A live wire

Well I guess that's right

Like a skunk in your yard kept you up all night

I'm drawn to the flame

I'm on my way

To trace where it all begins

Kick up the leaves

Watch the colors fly

Music ringing out above the cries of the city

And the time you're moving through

Downtown serves to remind you

Of the life you left behind you

All the things that you lack

Now there's no turning back

You just do what you know how to do
