I drove up the hill and knocked on a stranger's door

Approaching silently and with great caution

You didn't know me

Treated me like a friend

Stole my heart while I wasn't watching

And you asked me questions I must have asked myself a hundred times

Things you see to which I am blind

Would you be so kind

It was New Year's Eve 1985

I borrowed some money from a friend

And when the moon struck twelve I kissed you in the parking lot

And you stole my heart there and then

And times I've held it in my hand

Slipped through fingers like grains of sand

I saw three

Now I see you and I understand

Would you be so kind

I guess I must be lucky or protected somehow

For I have no right to be yet I am here

I can't remember

I can't remember anything ever standing out so clear

I wasted lifetimes

I had the best advice from everyone

I saw three

Now I see one

Would you be so kind
